Un certain regard: "French" public policy analysis in Europeanization research

In this chapter I discuss some fundamental propositions put forward by Pierre Muller on the study of Europeanization. I then discuss how these propositions have generated a kind of ‘ ecole Pierre Muller ’ on how to approach Europeanization in terms of sociology of public policy, the agency of domestic political actors, and usages of Europe. This ecole Pierre Muller , I continue, has brought in a set of analytical dimensions to the study of Eu ropeanization, as the comparison with Anglo - Saxon dominant approaches to institutionalization and European ‘impacts on domestic policy’ shows. Finally, I situate my own contribution in this field of research, and conclude with some thoughts on intuitions o f Pierre Muller that have yet to be followed - up. His lessons make up a treasure trove that we should preserve and exploit
