This photograph was taken by Nick Keen, friend of Bill Douglas and Peter Jewell, during the filming of 'Comrades'. It shows a scene being filmed with two characters. Douglas (wearing a striped jumper and glasses) can be seen standing behind the camera to the right, while the assistant director can be seen holding the megaphone to the centre of the image. 'Comrades' was written and directed by Bill Douglas and released in 1987. It tells the tale of the Tolpuddle Martyrs, a group of 19th century English farm labourers, who formed one of the first trade unions and started a campaign to receive fair wages.en_GB
