I wanted to investigate sequence learning under INTENTIONAL conditions. This follows work by Jones & McLaren (2009) JEP:ABP where participants performed a 2-choice SRT task that, THEY WERE EXPLICITLY TOLD followed a predictive sequence. Half of participants had no sequence and simple psudo-random control trials. The sequence followed a rule, and there were two different rules (between-subjects), either:
1. That the current trial would be in the OPPOSITE location as the trial two trials previous on 2/3rds of trials.
2. That the current trial would be in the SAME location as the trial two trials previous on 2/3rds of trials.
Participants were trained over two sessions then asked a series of structured interview questions regarding their knowledge about any sequences or rules. Reaction times and errors were taken as an index of performance on the task.
