There is a diverse array of outdoor learning methodologies and philosophies. With current approaches including outdoor adventurous education, Forest School, and place-based education, identifying the constituent components of teaching and learning in outside spaces often remains elusive. Whilst difficult to define, the role of technology in outdoor classrooms often falls on a ‘double-edged sword’, in that there are well-versed for-and-against arguments on what to do with technology when learning beyond the classroom. This entry examines current perspectives on technology in this context and presents scholarly developments in relation to postdigital outdoor classrooms.
