Data includes raw CFU counts, qPCR data and E. coli phylogenetic groupings. This file includes data from two separate experiments. The first analysed the selective colonisation of microplastics in comparison to control particles. This was done by assessing AMR prevalence with phenotypic (agar plates) and genotypic (qPCR) methods, and pathogen prevalence using multiplex PCR. This identified the phylogenetic groups of E. coli colonies, to enable us to identify E. coli pathogens. We then conducted a second experiment, where we used the same techniques to assess AMR colonisation, but on microplastics that were either weathered or virgin.en_GB
