Eleanor Shaw and others (Chapter 12) take a second look at entrepreneurial philanthropists, whose absence from the Big Society discourse strikes them as bizarre, when they are so well placed to make substantial contributions to stopping the gaping hole in the public purse. Considering this bewilderingly untapped resource, the authors wonder why such philanthropists have not been more centrally enlisted in support of the cause, when they could bring so many other attributes (innovations and partnerships across the three sectors) to the table.
