One recurring theme in this Volume is the role of systematic comparison of political structures and institutions. With the entry into force of the so-called Lisbon Treaty, most of the attention is rightly focused on the constitutional, and, perhaps, federalizing elements of the European Union (EU), in comparison to the type of constitutional politics and federalist structures that have molded political development in America.
