This is the dataset that was used to produce Appendix B for the published MNRAS paper: Bate (2018, DOI:10.1093/mnras/sty169). It contains the output from the SPH simulations discussed in the appendix, including dump files.en_GB
The calculation was conducted as part of the award ‘The formation of stars and planets: Radiation hydrodynamical and magnetohydrodynamical simulations’ made under the European Heads of Research Councils and European Science Foundation EURYI (European Young Investigator) Awards scheme, was supported by funds from the Participating Organisations of EURYI and the EC Sixth Framework Programme.en_GB

This repository contains the datasets from the original smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) calculations that were performed for Appendix B of the paper (Bate 2018, DOI:10.1093/mnras/sty169). The dataset from the SPH calculation analysed in the main sections of the paper has already been published on ORE (http://hdl.handle.net/10871/14881). Output from the SPH calculations are contained in the files: Bate2018_Besphere.zip for the calculations discussed in Appendix B1, and in Bate2018_Binary_beta020.zip for the calculations discussed in Appendix B2. When unzipped, each of these directories contains appropriately named sub-directories for each of the separate calculations performed using different numbers of SPH particles. A number of ASCII files give the setup parameters and output logs for each of the calculations. For each calculation in Bate2018_Besphere, the SPH dump files for each calculation begin at BESP000 at time zero and then are numbered sequentially, changing to BES1000 for the 1000th and later dump files. For each calculation in Bate2018_Binary_beta020, the SPH dump files begin at BB79000 at time zero and then are numbered sequentially. The SPH dump files are Fortran binary files, written in big endian format and generated by the sphNG code. They can be read, visualised, and manipulated using the free, publicly available SPLASH visualisation code (which reads sphNG dump files), written by Daniel Price, that can be downloaded from: http://users.monash.edu.au/~dprice/splash/en_GB
