This Masters by Research Thesis focuses on the development of a compact and versatile
experimental set-up for the characterisation of a wide range of photophysical properties of layered
perovskites and other atomically thin semiconductors. Testing in real-life scenarios such as
detecting the human heart rate at a finger tip is used to test the validity of the circuitry developed.
This thesis includes a design for a room temperature vacuum chamber insert, that allows
time-of-flight measurements to be taken with the aid of a shadowmask covering part of the sample,
and an LED illuminating it. A detailed analysis of the design is included, with possible
preliminary inputs, that should help to gain the first set of results, after which the set-up can be
altered through the changing of an LED, or the design on the chip for example.
