dc.description.abstractA phenomenon that is closely linked to federalism among the Greek city states is the development and definition of the Hellenic community. As regional and local identities were taking shape, also by at least the mid sixth century the peoples of the Greek peninsula had also developed another, supra-identity, to such a degree that they began to give themselves the collective name of the ‘Hellenes’.en_GB
